Application of Artificial Insemination (AI) as a Breeding Method for Dairy Goat Herd Build-Up in Region 3, Philippines

One of the constraints in development dairy industry country is limited number animals which only 14% are goats providing 1% total volume local milk production. Meanwhile, increasing goat population hindered by lack or high price breeder that can be used improving our stocks. To spur with genetic potential for dairying among farms Region 3, Philippines, artificial insemination (AI) was applied this project. Within implementation period, a 50 participants were trained on AI goats. They served as service providers their respective and nearby municipalities. 4 seminars raising conducted at different municipalities to promote use breeding upgrading participated 166 raisers. A 346 inseminations reported technicians. Based monitored, observed conception rate 60.29% ranging from 37.50% Bulacan 100% Zambales. Of kiddings recorded, percent singletons, twins, triplets 46.38%, 44.93%, 8.69%, respectively, giving an average kidding size 1.17. 106 kids born 61.32% (65 kids) males 38.68% (41 females overall male female ratio 1.59:1. Majority (73.58%) upgraded Anglo-Nubian bloodline. five commercial visited, Soliman Goat Farm Tarlac selected location establishment farm-based semen processing laboratory. Moreover, owner farm staff involved operating laboratory had already undergone training collection, processing, evaluation.
